According to foreign media reports, following the rejection of Bayer AG’s takeover offer last month, Monsanto Co has resumed negotiations with Bayer and other companies on “strategic options” due to performance pressure. Now, Monsanto’s potential options include BASF and related businesses spun out of the Dow/DuPont merger. Monsanto CEO Hugh Grant said the company will remain a trusted partner in the industry, and he pledged to continue to actively pursue growth opportunities.
As for when it will provide information on the progress of its acquisition with Bayer, Monsanto said that it has no new information, but pointed out that it has been negotiating in the past few weeks.
It is understood that in the past year, due to the continuous decline in agricultural product prices and the tightening problems brought about by the pressure on farmers’ income, several large-scale transactions have occurred in the global seed and pesticide industries. Last year, Dow Chemical and DuPont announced a merger, and in February ChemChina bought Syngenta for $43bn.
Various companies are constantly exploring ways to help the company solve the problem of poor market performance or the continued development of non-core businesses through asset sales.
However, two weeks after it rejected the Bayer bid, Monsanto still has not turned a new chapter, so it is still possible that it will eventually be owned by Bayer. And Bayer does not seem to have plans to raise prices. Therefore, it is not yet fully conclusive how it will go.
