According to news, a phosgene leak occurred at the TDI plant of GNFC in India, resulting in 4 deaths and 8 serious injuries. This is the second time such an incident has occurred at GNFC in India. The first time was in January 2014, in which more than 21 people were injured.
Local police said: “We are already investigating this incident. The company has also been closed and the fire brigade has arrived. All employees have been evacuated and the injured are in the hospital. They received treatment and two of them were seriously injured.”
The TDI device in the factory was shut down for maintenance in mid-October. There have been problems since it was restarted. On Wednesday night, several workers experienced gas leaks while at work.
GNFC is the only TDI supplier in India and the largest fertilizer and chemical company in India. The total TDI production capacity is 67,000 tons/year. The old factory is 17,000 tons/year and is currently operating normally. The new factory has an annual TDI production capacity of 50,000 tons/year and has been closed.
So will the closure of GNFC’s new TDI factory affect the domestic TDI price trend?
The TDI market price has fallen recently. On the one hand, the TDI price continued to rise sharply last week, so the market has seen some correction this week. On the other hand, according to some sponge factories in the southwest region, facing the current TDI price of around 50,000/ton, the cost pressure is extremely high. Sponge factories have stopped working more and wait and see, which has also suppressed TDI prices to a certain extent.
