Biotite——the most common mafic mineral_industrial additive

Biotite is one of the most common mafic minerals in granite rocks. It can be formed in various types of granitic from quasi-aluminous to strongly peraluminous. in quality rocks. Colors range from black to brown, red or green, with a glassy sheen. The shape is plate-like or columnar.
The crystallization chemical formula of biotite is A2M6T8O20(OH)4, where T=Si, Al; M=Mg, Fe, Mn, Cr, Ti, Zn, V; A=K, N a, Ba; OH = F, Cl, OH , its chemical composition is obviously controlled by the physical and chemical conditions (oxygen fugacity, temperature, pressure, etc.) during the cooling and crystallization of magma.
Our country is mainly distributed in Hebei, Lingshou and Xinjiang. The main application of biotite is as a decorative coating such as real stone paint.

[Basic overview]
Chinese name: Biotite
English name: Biotite

[Physical and chemical indicators]
Hardness: 2-3
Specific gravity: 3.02-3.12g/cm 3
Cleavage: a group of extremely complete cleavages
Extinction type: parallel extinction
Ductility: Positive
Light type: dimethoxypyridine negative
Axiality: biaxial crystal
Strong acid can corrode biotite and other materials and cause discoloration.

【Application】
Insulating material Can be used as an insulating material, but due to its higher iron content, its insulating properties are not as good as those of muscovite.
Decorative paint Can be used in the production of decorative paints such as real stone paint
Building material filler Small biotite or biotite flakes are often used as fillers for building materials
