On March 29, the National Science and Technology Support Plan project organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and led by the Fujian Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences – Coal-to-Ethylene Glycol Industrial Technology Research and Development Project pass the inspection. The expert group believes that the project team has achieved remarkable results from a 10,000-ton pilot test to a 200,000-ton industrial demonstration in the past two years.
The project team innovatively solved the problem of improving the quality and stability of catalysts prepared on a large scale, effectively controlling the reaction rate and heat transfer of industrial CO catalytic dehydrogenation purification, and simultaneously oxidizing CO. Key scientific issues such as improving the reaction efficiency of esterification have formed the large-scale preparation technology of a series of catalysts for coal-to-ethylene glycol, providing catalyst technology support for the 200,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol industrial demonstration. The project also developed new high-efficiency catalysts, providing new technical reserves for the optimization and upgrading of catalyst technology for coal-to-ethylene glycol. In addition, during the implementation of the project, the project team completed the scale-up and system integration of the 10,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol pilot technology, forming a 200,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol complete technology that matches the catalyst performance. It is also the first in the world to build an efficient and stable 200,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol industrial demonstration, producing ethylene glycol products that meet the national standard (GB4649-93) high-grade product indicators.
This project developed a 200,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol complete technology using cheap lignite as raw material and built an industrial demonstration, achieving important innovative results.
The National Science and Technology Support Plan project is oriented to the needs of national economic and social development and focuses on solving major scientific and technological issues in industrial development.
Relevant persons in charge of the High-Tech Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology suggested further improving and making breakthroughs in key technologies and processes for industrial production.
