Although it rarely exists in pure form, this element is found in many different places in nature, including plant cells and human bones. Silicon is a component of many minerals, such as sand and quartz, and is a naturally good conductor of electricity. As such, silicon is a key part of the computer and microchip industries, hence the name “Silicon Valley.”
