Introduction to rubber applications of organic zinc

Zinc oxide is a traditional vulcanization activator for rubber and a vulcanizer for some special rubbers. The current annual consumption of my country’s rubber industry is estimated to be around 200,000 tons. From the perspective of environmental protection and resources, it is necessary to find a vulcanization activator to replace zinc oxide. Compared with zinc oxide, organic zinc has the characteristics of low density, fast vulcanization speed, and lower price.

Organic Zinc

The environmentally friendly organic zinc series products developed by Shanghai New Material Technology Co., Ltd. can replace zinc oxide as an efficient activator for rubber. Ordinary zinc oxide contains 80% of metallic zinc, while organic zinc contains 80% of zinc. It can be reduced to 40% or lower to meet the requirements of environmental protection regulations in European countries. The zinc content is lower than 40%, which is closer to environmental protection and saves heavy metal zinc resources.

The experimental results are now introduced as follows:

Experimental formula: natural rubber 100 , stearic acid 2, carbon black N3304545, naphthenic oil 4, accelerator NS0.7, sulfur 2.5, zinc oxide or organic zinc 4, total 158.2

ZnO-11 is a commonly used indirect method of zinc oxide. Comparative samples: Zn-12, Zn-13, Zn-14, and Zn-15 have different zinc contentsOrganic Zinc. From the perspective of the minimum torque, there is not much difference between the samples, that is, it has little impact on the viscosity of the mixed rubber, but it has a greater impact on the minimum torque. As the Zn content decreases, MH decreases, and when the Zn content is 40%, It is similar to ordinary ZnO-11, the cross-linking density is equivalent, and the vulcanization speed (T90) increases with the decrease of Zn content. Zn-15 is similar to ZnO-11, and Zn-14 is faster than Zn-13. However, the scorch time (Ts1, Ts2, T10) shows little difference, that is, the vulcanization speed increases and the scorch time basically remains unchanged, which is conducive to safe production. High temperature vulcanization is more obvious.
