Pesticide additives small science

What is a pesticide additive

Pesticide additives are the general term for the substances used to improve the physical and chemical properties of pharmaceuticals added during the processing or use of the preparation. They are inactive and safe for crops, and have the effect of increasing the control effect and improving the efficacy.

Types of auxiliaries

A, for the dispersal of the active ingredients of pharmaceuticals: such as dispersants, emulsifiers, solvents, fillers, etc.

1, dispersant: pesticide powder dispersant, with the prevention of powder flocculation, to facilitate the dispersion of additives, generally some surfactants.

2, emulsifier: the original immiscible two-phase liquid (such as oil and water), one phase of liquid with very small liquid beads stable dispersion in the other phase of liquid, the formation of opaque or translucent emulsion, the role of such additives called emulsifiers, such as calcium alkyl benzene sulfonate, polyoxyethyl fatty acid esters.

3, solvent: is the solvent to dissolve the original pesticide, mostly used in the processing of emulsified oils, requiring low toxicity, non-flammable, low cost, wide range of sources. Commonly used such as benzene, toluene, xylene.

4, filler or filler: pesticide processing, in order to adjust the finished product content and improve the physical state and the addition of solid substances. Such as clay, kaolin, diatomaceous earth, talcum powder, etc.

Second, used to increase or extend the efficacy: such as stabilizers, synergists, slow release agents, etc.

1. stabilizer: can inhibit or slow down the decomposition of the active ingredients of pesticides additives, also known as anticoagulants, can prevent the physical properties of pesticide formulations in the storage process deterioration or powder caking, emulsion stratification, etc..

2. synergist: when mixed with some pesticides, can significantly improve the efficacy of pesticides additives, the control of resistant pests and delay resistance is of great significance.

3. slow release agents: pesticide slow release agents can control or delay the release of pesticide active ingredients in time and space to improve the utilization of pesticides.

Third, used to increase the contact area with the control object: such as wetting agents, adhesives, etc.

1, wetting agent: can reduce the surface tension of water, so that water is easy to wet the surface of the object with the spread of additives, such as tea kettle, pulp waste, laundry detergent, pull off powder, etc.

2, adhesives: additives that can increase the adhesion properties of pesticides to the solid surface. Increase the adhesion of the agent can improve the resistance to scouring and hold effect. Such as adding the right amount of viscous mineral oil in the powder, adding the right amount of starch paste, gelatin, etc. in the liquid pesticide.

Fourth, in addition to increasing the safety of pesticide use safety agents also known as antidotes, can reduce drug damage, penetrating agents, foaming agents, antifoaming agents, antifreeze agents and coloring agents for formulations.

Environment, population and food are the three major issues facing sustainable development in the 21st century, of which the contradiction between population growth and food shortage is particularly prominent. A UN population projection shows that the world population will exceed 9 billion in 2050, when the food will be more than double the current food production. How to increase the production capacity of arable land per unit area has become a major problem that countries, governments and scientists need to solve.

In food production, diseases, pests, weeds and other pests are the main factors affecting crop production and reducing food yield and quality. The use of pesticides can not only recover crop losses and improve economic efficiency, but also save labor and reduce production costs. Pesticides are indispensable agents for modern agriculture, ecological protection and health protection.

In the context of protecting spring cultivation and maintaining national food security, under the premise of ensuring environmental friendliness, developing and screening pesticide formulations that can give full play to the efficacy and increase the dispersion and penetration of pharmaceuticals according to the characteristics of the original drug is a subject we should continue to study and research in depth, while promoting the innovative development of pesticides by strengthening the standardized management of pesticide additives is the goal of the whole industry’s joint efforts.
