Special elastomer materials are used in China’s submarine cables to expand market capacity-TMPDA-tetramethylpropylenediamine

It is reported that special elastomer materials from global chemical giant Covestro are used in China’s submarine cables. In the next three to five years, market capacity is expected to increase to 10,000 MW. Once completed, China’s OWF will become one of the world’s largest markets in terms of market capacity and output, exceeding all of Europe’s existing and planned production capacity.

Covestro’s special elastomer materials are used in China’s submarine cables

The two companies collaborated to develop a Cable Protection System (CPS) to protect valuable and fragile submarine cables in areas prone to waves and tides. Developed protection means include bend stiffeners and bend limiters. Most of the technical means belong to the TEKLINK® CPS system developed by Tekmar using special elastomer materials from Covestro.

TEKLINK® CPS is a patented CPS system for cable connection and protection. Products include damping motion enhancers and bend limiters that provide locking protection, as well as breakaway tubes for ballasts and stabilizers.

In order to achieve the functional requirements and hydrolysis resistance in practical applications, Covestro has launched a new system using its famous Desmodur® and Baytec® technologies. At the same time, the agreement also stipulates that Covestro needs to provide elastomer casting machinery, elastomer systems and cable protection system production technology.
